Respect the hustle. There's a growing generational gap where older folks feel like Gen Z just needs to “pull up their bootstraps” fix their spending habits and be more like the boomers were when they were growing up. Back when we were a real country. The issue with this take is that it ignores one critical element. Young people want to work. They actually do want to contribute to society and be seen as valuable additions. However, that would require the system to respect our ideas and agency.

How I'm supposed to run on a treadmill for a carrot when there's no carrot?

Just take a chance. On yourself or on someone else you trust but the chance gotta be taken.
